What our tribe members say

“Thank you for one of the most amazing weekends I’ve ever had. My whole life I’ve felt very much like a square peg in a round hole. The few exceptions have always been when I was outdoors.”

Kerri G | Grand Ledge, MI

“It was the single most incredible outdoor experience I’ve ever had.”

Deb O | Bloomfield Hills, MI

“Wow! It was one of my best life experiences... I learned a lot and it open my eyes to so many new things. From start to finish it was great.”

Wendy M | Clawson, MI

“Great organization to do scenic backpacking with. Went with the leader, Scott, who shared his experiences and knowledge. I learned a lot during my recent trip. Looking forward to the next one.”

Matt B | Clawson, MI

“I love hiking and camping, but I’ve never really considered backpacking. I was always scared the pack would be too heavy and my knees would hurt (i.e., me complaining the entire trip, annoying myself and others). Laura and Scott helped ease my worries. They helped me get all the right gear that would work best for me, showed me how to pack it all and adjust the backpack so I could easily hike for 20 miles. I felt great once I had everything adjusted and packed the right way! My knees didn’t hurt at all! The pack was surprisingly easy to carry. The entire experience was so lovely and they are both super helpful, caring and knowledgeable. It’s easy to talk to them and ask them any questions, even if your questions sound dumb. They both have great energy, which keeps up the group morale. Our group had great vibes the entire weekend – many great convos, giggles, but also peaceful and zen moments throughout. Laura and Scott are willing to listen and encourage feedback, which makes it an open and nonjudgemental environment for learning and improvement. Overall, it was an amazing first backpacking / backcountry camping experience. This is great for anyone who loves the outdoors and is new to backcountry camping or someone who has done it before and wants to refine their skills. Thanks! Can't wait for the next trip!"

Brittney Z | Royal Oak, MI

“I had an awesome, educational, challenging (mentally and physically) and beautiful experience with my Lady Tribe weekend! Co- owner Laura and guide Nikki were fantastic. Filled with knowledge, experience, truth, empathy, open hearts and minds. I am 51 years old and have never done much camping but I love nature. I am sore but energized and so thankful that The High Five Tribe provides this kind of opportunity”

Ann D | Portage, MI

“I cannot say enough good things about this company! I went on a 3-day backpacking trip with The High Five Tribe this weekend on the Manistee River Trail and it was a fantastic experience. This trail is one of the most beautiful parts of Michigan. Scott and Laura are expert teachers on their subject matter and I gained a lot of practice as a beginner with my backpacking skills. They provided a comprehensive packing list, supportive guidance on the trail, and a positive respectful attitude toward nature and us as their students. I feel all around more self-confident, competent, and comfortable in my own skin after this trip. Being out immersed in nature like we were is amazing for one’s mental health. I highly recommend this experience for anyone, but especially for other women who want to feel like they can go out into nature on their own (we can!). I do recommend for everyone that they make sure to have the right fitness level for carrying a heavy pack through miles of trail before signing up. That and having the right equipment is important. If you contact them, HFT will be able to guide you through those decisions and rent you gear. I have so many priceless memories from this weekend. We made pizza from scratch on our stoves, swam in the river to cool off, and shared a million laughs. Hike your own hike with The High Five Tribe! You won't regret it!"
